Short ReviewEdit

This story is taking place after the gang left Crystal Cove. In Chicago, they meet a girl who is Daphne's and Fred's cousin! (Fred is her cousin from one side, and Daphne on the other.) She gets them to solve a huge mystery in town and helps them with her sharp eyes.

Chapter 1Edit

Daphne's POVEdit

I was really excited to get to Miskatonic University. Too bad it was on the West Coast. The gang and I made plans to drive across the country and solve every mystery we could find. Now we were in Chicago, taking a break. Shaggy and Scooby had decided to hit a fast-food stand in the food court for lunch. The rest of us weren't hungry, yet, so we decided to go sight-seeing. As Velma began one of her hard-to-understand lectures, Fred and I walked away from her and looked up at the Sear Towers.

"Wow, it's so tall," I said. "I read it's 1,454 feet tall and 110 stories high."

"It sure is," Fred said. Fred was going to be my groom my parents and his parents wanted for our wedding. Sadly, we left before they could set the date. But we were still into each other, though it was annoying that a lot of times, he showed more affection for his traps.

Velma walked toward us and said, "You guys could've told me where you were going."

"Sorry, but you were too busy talking, and you don't like being interrupted." I said, in a apologizing tone.

Velma groaned. "Where's Shaggy? And Scooby?" Velma had been trying to date Shaggy for some time, but he didn't want to because of Scooby.

"Food court," Fred said, pointing to the food court.

"Figures," Velma sighed. "I'm surprised that Shaggy is so lanky, and he eats a lot of junk food."

"Let's get them out of there before they eat too much," I said. "Or else they won't fit in the Mystery Machine."

As we walked in, we heard a girl arguing with her mother. "Mom, why did you let Tanya borrow the car? She messed up the insides because her makeup spilled! Now, I have no transportation to Miskatonic University!"

Her mother said, "Now, Martine, be reasonable. Your sister didn't mean that."

"She always messes things up," Martine grumbled.

Velma, Fred, and I looked where the conversation was. A blonde girl about twelve, wearing a blue tank and black leggings was looking angrily at a short blonde woman. They looked familiar for some reason.

"Wait," Velma said. "Did she just say university? Either that girl is really smart, or she's nuts."

That girl must've sharp hearing because she suddenly looked at Velma with a furious look. She marched toward us, with her mother following. "Did you just say that I'm nuts?" she demanded.

Velma looked down at her. "How can you be a high school graduate if you're only twelve?"

Martine looked at her in confusion. Then, she laughed. "Twelve! Are you serious?" Then she gave her mother a please-leave look. Her mother left us in privacy. Then Martine turned around. "I'm seventeen." she said.

We all gave her a surprised look. "Seventeen?" I said. "But you're-"

"Short?" Martine said. She shrugged. "My family's the really short kind." Then she put out her hand. "My name's Martine Allen."

"Martine Allen?" I said. Then I realized why she looked so familiar. I've see her face in my family album! I looked at Fred. He was giving her a you-look-familiar face.

"Yeah," Martine said. Then she looked at me closely. "For some reason, you look familiar." She looked at Fred. "So do you."

"Um, I'm Daphne Blake,' I said.

Martine's eyes grew wide. "You're my cousin!" she said. "I have this family album at home and I just remembered your face and name in the cousins page!" She looked at Fred. "And you are also my cousin! Frederick Chiles!"

Fred and I looked at each other. We shared a cousin!

Fred's POVEdit

I couldn't wait to get to Miskatonic University. But I also love driving the Mystery Machine. A few days ago, the gang and I made plans to drive across the country to Miskatonic University, a university we got in thanks to Harlan Ellison aka Mr. E. Now we decided to rest and Shaggy and Scooby headed for a fast-food stand in the food court for lunch. Velma, Daphne, and I weren't hungry so we decided to go sight-seeing. Velma began one of her hard-to-understand lectures, Daphne and I headed for the Sears Tower.

"Wow, it's so tall," Daphne said in awe. "I read it is 1,454 feet tall and 110 stories high." Daphne Blake was supposed to be my bride-to-be, but we left Crystal Cove before our parents could plan it. We still loved each other, even though Daphne was often annoyed by my ignorance and love for traps,

It sure is," I agreed.

Velma approached us, annoyed. "You guys could've told me where you were going."

"Sorry, but you were too busy and talking and you don't like being interrupted." Daphne apologized.

Velma sighed. "Where's Shaggy? And Scooby?"

I cracked a smile. Velma has been trying to date Shaggy for some time, but because of Scooby she couldn't. "Food court," I said, pointing to the food court.

"Figures," Velma groaned. "I'm surprised that Shaggy is so lanky, and he eats a lot of junk food."

"Let's get them out of there before they eat too much," Daphne suggested. "Or else they won't fit in the Mystery Machine.

As we walked in, we overheard a girl arguing with her mother. "Mom, why did you let Tanya borrow the car? She messed up the insides because her makeup spilled! Now I don't have any transportation to Miskatonic University!"

Her mother said, "Now, Martine, be reasonable. Your sister didn't mean that."

"She always messes things up," Martine grumbled.

Velma, Daphne, and I looked over where the argument was. A twelve-year-old blonde wearing a blue tank and black leggings was looking angrily at a short blonde woman.

"Wait, did she just say university?" said Velma. "Either that girl is really smart, or she's nuts."

Martine must have good hearing because she heard Velma and angrily marched up to us with her mother following.  "Did you just say I'm nuts?" she demanded.

Velma looked down at her. "How can you be a high school graduate if you're only twelve?"

Martine looked confused. Then she began laughing. "Twelve? Are you serious?" She looked at her mother as if she wanted her to leave. Her mother left us. Martine turned to us. "I'm seventeen."

We all stared at her in surprise. "Seventeen?" Daphne said. "But you're-

"Short?" Martine cut in. She shrugged. "My family's the really short kind." Then she put out her hand. "My name's Martine Allen."

"Martine Allen?" Daphne repeated.

That name sounds familiar, I thought. She also looks familiar.

"Yeah," Martine said. She squinted at Daphne. "For some reason, you look familiar." She looked at me. "So do you."

"Um, I'm Daphne Blake," Daphne introduced herself.

Martine's eyes grew wide. "You're my cousin!" she cried. "I have this family album at home and I just remembered seeing your face and name in the cousins page!" She looked at me. "You are also my cousin! Frederick Chiles!"

Daphne and I stared at each other in shocked. We two soul mates shared a cousin!

Martine's POVEdit

"Dad!" I yelled across the house. "Where's the car?" My name is Martine Allen and I'm seventeen. I'm not lying, I am seventeen. You may think I"m twelve, but that's because I'm short. My whole family is short. My sister, Tanya, is barely five feet tall, and she's nineteen. Hah! I'm taller than her. I'm five feet and one inch. I needed the car to make sure I'm ready to go to Miskatonic University.

"Sorry," Dad yelled back. "Tanya was using it and she accidentally spilled her makeup while driving!"

"WHAT?!" I screamed. "Who let her borrow the car?"

"Your mother respects your sister's love for makeup so she let her drive to the mall to get more," Dad said, coming in the garage.

"Where's Mom?" I screamed. "I need a word with her!"

"Martine, calm down," Dad said.

"I'm serious! Where! Is! Mom!!" I screamed again.

Dad sighed. "She's at the food court. You know she works there."

"You are lucky that it's only two blocks away from here!" I screamed again. "Otherwise, I would've made you take me there on your back!" With that word, I raced out of the house.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

I stomped my way into the food court. My mother was serving hot dogs to a couple in her stand. "MOM!" I screamed at her, causing everyone to move back.

Mom looked up in annoyance. "Martine Allen, what are you doing here?" she demanded.

Regaining control, I said, "Talking to you about Tanya!"

Mom sighed. She put a closed sign on her stand and approached me. "What about Tanya? You're always complaining about her."

"Mom, why did you let Tanya borrow the car?" I demanded. "She messed up the insides because her makeup spilled! Now, I have no transportation to Miskatonic University!"

Mom sighed. "Now, Martine, you know your sister didn't mean that."

"She always messes things up," I grumbled.

"Wait, did she just say university?" I overheard a girl talking to her friends. I realized it was those teens and their dog who just walked in. "Either that girl is really smart, or she's crazy."

Really miffed, I marched towards them with Mom following me. I really hated being called crazy. "Did you just say I'm crazy?" I demanded.

The girl with glasses looked down at me. "How can you be a high school graduate if you're only twelve?"

That startled me. Twelve? It was ridiculous. It was hilarious. I laughed. "Twelve! Are you serious?" I looked at Mom, giving her a message to leave. She obeyed. I turned to the teens. "I'm seventeen."

"Seventeen?" said the cute red-head. "But you're-"

"Short?" I finished. I shrugged as if it weren't a big deal. "My family's the really short kind." Feeling kinder and more controlled, I held out my hand. "My name's Martine Allen." I introduced myself.

"Martine Allen?" the red-head repeated. I studied her more closely. I've seen that face before. I thought. Beside her was a handsome blonde guy with broad shoulders. He looks familiar, too. But where have I seen them? I don't even know them!

"Yeah," I said. Even though it would've been silly, I said my thoughts. "For some reason, you look familiar." I looked at the blonde guy. "You, too."

As if she was curious about names, the red-head shook my hand slowly, "Um, I'm Daphne Blake."

My mind suddenly rang a bell. Daphne Blake! Family album! Cousin! I couldn't hold it in anymore. "You're my cousin!" I burst out. "I have this family album at home, and I just remembered seeing your face and name in the cousins page!" I took a quick look at the blonde guy and I remembered a name below a picture of his face. Frederick Chiles! "You are also my cousin!" Frederick Chiles!"

Frederick and Daphne stared at each other in shock.

Chapter 2Edit

Daphne's POVEdit

"Let me get this straight," said Velma. She pointed to me. "You're related to-" She pointed to Martine. "You, and you're related to-" She pointed to Fred. "You." She shook her head. "I'm confused."

"It's simple," Martine proclaimed. "Daphne is my cousin on my dad's side, and Frederick is my cousin on my mom's side."

"Like, that would make more sense," Shaggy said.

Martine frowned at him. "What's with the junk words?"

Velma sighed. "I've been trying to get him to stop saying that unnecessarily for some time."

Martine glanced at the rest of us. "Aren't you Mystery Incorporated?"

"How did you know?" Fred asked. "Only Mr. Ellison at Miskatonic University and all of us know that."

Martine shrugged. "I don't know. I just remember. Evil entity, Professor Pericles, Mr. E. aka Ricky Owens."

"But you're not from Crystal Cove," I said. "How would you know about it?"

Martine pressed her temples. "It was like a vision," she said. "I was sleeping and I had a nightmare, seeing this monstrosity eating people and the sky was all red and I saw a talking dog. She said she was an Annuaki. A resident of Nibiru."

We all stared at her in shock. "What happened after that?" Velma asked.

"I woke up, then this bright light flashed, blinding me and the next thing I knew, as I got to school, the prissy bullies were all nice to me and my mean teacher was so nice." Martine said.

"That's because after we destroyed the monster, time reset and no one was negatively influenced by the entity," I said.

"Yeah," Martine said.

Fred changed the subject. "So what was the argument about a car you were having with your mom?"

"Oh, she let my sister borrow the car, and she spilled the makeup when the lights suddenly changed and she was so surprised, she stopped aburptly." Martine scowled. "And now there's no way I can go to Miskatonic University!"

"We're heading to Miskatonic University," I said. "Want to come with us?"

Martine perked up. "Sure! We can get on the road as soon as I have my stuff. It's back at my house. Mom!" she called.

"Whatever you're doing, go home!" Her mother called.

"My mom, Bertha Chiles Allen," Martine said with a wry smile. "She tends to favor Tanya over me."

"Need a lift to your house?" Fred asked.

"No thanks, Frederick," Martine said. "I can walk. Anyway, it would slow the process of seeing my stupid sister." She made a face. "See you later."

"It's Fred!" Fred called after her.

"Whatever!" she called back.

Fred's POVEdit

"Let me get this straight," said Velma. She pointed to Daphne. "You're related to-" She pointed to Martine. "You, and you're related to-" She pointed to me. "You." She shook her head. "I'm confused."

"My mom, Bertha Chiles Allen," Martine said with a wry smile. "She tends to favor Tanya over me."

Figured Martine's mom's last name was Chiles. Or even Reeves would work.

"Need a lift to your house?" I asked.

"No thanks, Frederick," Martine said. "I can walk. Anyway, it would slow the process of seeing my stupid sister." She made a face. "See you later."

"It's Fred!" I called after her. I really don't like going by Frederick.

"Whatever!" she called back.

Martine's POVEdit

"Let me get this straight," said Velma. She pointed to Daphne. "You're related to-" She pointed to me. "You, and you're related to-" She pointed to Frederick. "You." She shook her head. "I'm confused."

"It's simple," I explained. "Daphne is my cousin on my dad's side, and Frederick is my cousin on my mom's side."

"Like, that would make more sense," Shaggy said.

I frowned at him. "What's with the junk words?" I've been taught about junk words and how we're not supposed to use them.

Velma sighed. "I've been trying to get him to stop saying that unnecessarily for some time."

I glanced at the gang. "Aren't you Mystery Incorporated?" I don't know why I said that. After all, I wasn't even supposed to know! Why you ask? Because Mr. Ellison of Miskatonic University told me!

"How did you know?" Frederick asked. "Only Mr. Ellison at Miskatonic University and all of us know that."

I shrugged. "I don't know. I just know. Evil entity, Professor Pericles, Mr. E. aka Ricky Owens."

"I woke up, then this bright light flashed, blinding me and the next thing I knew, as I got to school, the prissy bullies were all nice to me and my mean teacher was so nice." I said. I still remembered it all. My nemesis Allison Wagner used to be so mean, but after the nightmare, she was so nice, she gave me a beautiful notebook for school.

"That's because after we destroyed the monster, time reset and no one was negatively influenced by the entity," Daphne said.

"Yeah," I said. Mr. Ellison told me that too.

Frederick changed the subject. "So what was the argument about a car you were having with your mom?"

"Oh, she let my sister borrow the car, and she spilled the makeup when the lights suddenly changed and she was so surprised, she stopped aburptly." I scowled, still mad about it. "And now there's no way I can go to Miskatonic University!"

"We're heading to Miskatonic University," Daphne said. "Want to come with us?"

I perked up. Going with Mystery Incorporated! A dream come true! "Sure! We can get on the road as soon as I have my stuff. It's back at my house. Mom!" she called.

"Whatever you're doing, go home!" Her mother called.

"My mom, Bertha Chiles Allen," I said with a wry smile. "She tends to favor Tanya over me." Her brother is Brad Chiles, Frederick's dad.

"Need a lift to your house?" Frederick asked.

"No thanks, Frederick," I said. "I can walk. Anyway, it would slow the process of seeing my stupid sister." I made a face. "See you later."

"It's Fred!" he called after me.

"Whatever!" I called back, not really caring whether what to call him.

Chapter 3Edit

Daphne's POVEdit

I felt like throwing up. Shaggy and Scooby were wolfing down tons of food. It was making me sick. I glanced at Fred and Velma. They were covering their eyes.

A few minutes ago, Martine had left us to pack her stuff so she could go with us to Miskatonic University. After that, Shaggy and Scooby decided to eat. Ugh, they were an embarrassment to us. Everyone else in the food court was watching them eat and eat and eat.

Shaggy and Scooby were about to put whipped cream on hot dogs when suddenly a bloodcurdling scream came out of the blue. The door to the food court suddenly opened and Martine ran in screaming at the top of her lungs. "Ghooooooooost!"

Shaggy and Scooby immediately stopped eating and dived under their table. I quickly got up and asked, "Martine, what happened?"

Martine stopped to breathe. Then she said, "I...was...walking...when...the ghost...of...Marvin...Camras...appeared...out of...the...blue and...moaned...and...clutched his...side." She sank into a chair.

"Marvin Camras? The famous inventor who died of kidney failure?" Velma asked, shocked.

"Zoinks!" Shaggy cried out. "Scooby-Doo! Let's hide here until the coast is clear."

"He disappeared when I reached the food court," Martine said.

A crowd of people formed around us, and a reporter who overheard came over with her cameraman. "Miss, can you tell us about the ghost?"

"Why not? Just don't interfere with my personal life." said Martine. "One interview. That's all."

Aunt Bertha was part of the crowd. "No interviews for you, Martine. You're too young."

"Mom! I'm almost eighteen! I'm going to a university so it's time to make my own choices." Martine objected. She turned to the camera. "My name is Martine Allen. I'm seventeen years old. I may look twelve, but I'm not. A while ago, I was walking home when a man with white hair and glasses suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I recognized him at once. It was-" She made a frightened face. "-the ghost of the inventor Marvin Camras. He began to moan, and he clutched his side. At the end of his lifetime in 1995, he suffered from kidney failure. Thank you." She turned away from the camera.

"Cut," said the reporter. She smiled at Martine. "That was good. Especially the frightened face."

Martine shuddered. "It was terrifying." She looked at us. "You guys are so lucky not to see him."

Velma said, "I'd like to take a look at that ghost."

Martine shook her head. "You'll need me to spot him and there's no way I'm looking for him." She planted her foot on the floor, making it clear she wasn't up to it.

Aunt Bertha came to us. "Martine, it was your imagination. There are no such things as ghosts."

Martine scowled at her mother. "Really? Then how do you explain that?"

Everyone looked toward where she pointed. An old man with glasses was standing at the entrance. He clutched his side and moaned. Martine screamed, "It's the ghost of Marvin Camras! Run!"

Everyone in the food court ran toward the back entrance, including us.

Fred's POVEdit

I covered my eyes. I couldn't stand it. Shaggy and Scooby were eating so nosily and mannerlessly, it was disgusting.

The door to the food court suddenly flew opened, and Martine ran in screaming at the top of her lungs. "Ghooooooooost!"

Shaggy and Scooby immediately stopped eating and dived under their table. That was a relief. I opened my eyes just in time to see Daphne get up and ask, "Martine, what happened?"

Martine stopped to breathe. Then she said, "I...was...walking...when...the ghost...of...Marvin...Camras...appeared...out of...the...blue and...moaned...and...clutched his...side." She sank into a chair.

Velma said, "I'd like to take a look at that ghost."

Martine shook her head. "You'll need me to spot him and there's no way I'm looking for him." She planted her foot on the floor, making it clear she wasn't up to it. I never met her before, shockingly, so I didn't know she could be stubborn./

He looked very ghostly with mist swirling around him. Martine screamed, "It's the ghost of Marvin Camras! Run!"

Everyone in the food court ran toward the back entrance, including us.

Martine's POVEdit

I skipped on the sidewalk, heading to my house. I couldn't believe that I had another opportunity to go to Miskatonic University! Here's how it started out. I was arguing with Mom about my sister Tanya ruining the car with her spilled makeup when Mystery Incorporated themselves showed up and overheard heard. And get this, two of them were my cousins, Daphne Blake and Frederick - Fred Chiles. The gang happened to be going to Miskatonic University, like me, and offered to take me with them. How could I resist? It was pure luck.

I was heading to my house to grab my stuff so we could hit the road. I was walking so I wouldn't have to see Tanya so soon. Too bad the house was near the food court where my mom worked. Bertha Chiles Allen. Huh.

I was a block away from home when suddenly an elderly man appeared out of nowhere in front of me. He wore glasses and mist was surrounding him. He clutched his side and moaned. Recognizing him, I stepped back, terrified. He stepped toward me. I knew who he was. The ghost of Marvin Camras, an inventor who died in 1995 of kidney failure. I was so terrified, I screamed so loud that everyone around me covered their ears.  I was pretty sure the food court could hear me. After all, the food court was less than half a block away. I turned around and ran toward the food court. It was a good thing I was on the girls' cross-country team. I was really fast. I reached the food court when the apparition disappeared. I opened the door and ran in, screaming, "Ghooooooooost!"

Shaggy and Scooby were eating nosily when they heard me, but they dived under the table. Then Daphne stood up and asked, "Martine, what happened?"

I stopped to breathe. Because I ran so fast, I had to breathe between words. I said, "I...was...walking...when...the ghost...of...Marvin...Camras...appeared...out of...the...blue and...moaned...and...clutched his...side." I sank into a chair, exhausted.

"Marvin Camras? The famous inventor who died of kidney failure?" Velma asked, shocked.

"Zoinks!" Shaggy cried out. "Scooby-Doo! Let's hide here until the coast is clear."

"He disappeared when I reached the food court," I told them.

A crowd of people formed around us, and a reporter, who overheard, came over with her cameraman. "Miss, can you tell us about the ghost?"

"Why not? Just don't interfere with my personal life." I said. I've always wanted to be on TV. And I had a chance! "One interview. That's all."

Mom was part of the crowd. "No interviews for you, Martine. You're too young."

"Mom! I'm almost eighteen! I'm going to a university so it's time to make my own choices." I complained. I really think my mom is flawed. She favors Tanya too much, and she barely lets me do anything. Disobeying her, I turned to the camera. "My name is Martine Allen. I'm seventeen years old. I may look twelve, but I'm not. A while ago, I was walking home when a man with white hair and glasses suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I recognized him at once. It was-" I showed fright on my face. "-the ghost of the inventor Marvin Camras. He began to moan, and he clutched his side. At the end of his lifetime, in 1995, he suffered from kidney failure. Thank you." She turned away from the camera.

"Cut," said the reporter. She smiled at me "That was good. Especially the frightened face."

I shuddered. "It was terrifying." I looked at the gang. "You guys are so lucky not to see him."

Velma said, "I'd like to take a look at that ghost."

I shook her head. "You'll need me to spot him and there's no way I'm looking for him." I planted my foot on the floor, making it clear I wasn't up to it. I can be really stubborn sometimes.

Mom came to us. "Martine, it was your imagination. There are no such things as ghosts."

I scowled at her. "Really? Then how do you explain that?" I saw Marvin Camras at the doorway!

Everyone else looked toward where I pointed. The ghost of Marvin Camras was standing in the doorway, moaning and clutching his side. I screamed, "It's the ghost of Marvin Camras! Run!"

I ran toward the back entrance with everyone else.

Chapter 4Edit

Daphne's POVEdit

Everyone frantically squeezed through the back entrance as fast as they could. Boy, it was a squeeze! I looked back, seeing that the ghost of Marvin Camras was walking slowly into the food court toward us. As slow as he was, everyone was anxious to get away from the food court. At last, the gang and I managed to get out. Martine was the first one of us to get out. Then she screamed, "Run as fast you can! Before he gets you!" Then she hightailed away.

I never met my cousin before, but I didn't think she would be that fast. Considering she was seventeen, she seemed like a twelve-year-old with her screams and speedy running. I managed to catch up to her, despite wearing high heels. It was uncomfortable, but I have to look my best all the time. Shaggy and Scooby were also fast. They caught up to her in no time. Also there was the ghost. He finally reached the back entrance. Too scared, I ran faster to get away. "Ouch!" I said, sprawling on the sidewalk. "These shoes are definitely not meant for running!" I struggled to stand, but my ankle stung so much I stopped trying. The ghost got closer and closer to me until it was a yard away. "No!" I screamed. "Help me!"

Fred ran to help me, but the ghost picked me up and carried me off. I frantically kicked him, but he held on. For a ghost of an old man, he was strong. And fast. He wasn't being slow at all! He covered my face with a cloth soaked in something. I couldn't tell what it was, but it was something. I passed out, faintly hearing Martine yell, "Daphne, we're coming!"
